Natural beauty is having a serious moment. We’ve been singing the praises of eco-friendly mascara and mineral tints for years, and now the biggest places in beauty have taken notice. It’s exciting to see some of our favorite indie brands popping up more prevalently in stores.
Good-for-you beauty is good for everyone (and the planet at large), and there’s no time like the present to try something new. Assuming you’ve checked spring cleaning off your to-do list and tossed all of those expired tubes of SPF and miscellaneous makeup in the trash, we’ve got the scoop on nine new natural beauty products that we think you should know about – just in time for summer, when less is more and skin care is the number-one priority.
Rose Marie Swift, makeup artist to models everywhere, has created a sister highlighter to her famous Living Luminizer. Instead of a pearly hue, this one is rose gold and intended to be mixed with all of your other makeup for subtle illumination. We were believers when we saw the result from blending it inwith lipstick and a creamy neutral eyeshadow. To buy: RMS Master Mixer ($38)
Gwyneth Paltrow teamed up with Juice Beauty on a makeup line, and it’s incredible. The star product is this pre-makeup serum, rich in botanical juices and coconut alkanes (instead of standard silicones). It’s something you’ll want to wear even if you put on no other makeup, just because it makes your skin look so radiant. To buy: Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Illuminating Primer ($36)
There’s no time like summer to get on board with hydrating facial mists. They’re great when you need a refresh and also as a way to prep before makeup application, and they work particularly well with oily skin. Our favorite of the moment includes coconut water, aloe vera, witch hazel, Dead Sea salt, coconut oil and honeysuckle. How to make it even better? Store it in the refrigerator. To buy: Cocovit Facial Mist ($32)
What happens when SPF, highlighter and setting powder merge in a portable twist-and-go tube? Well, for starters, you can reapply your sun protection when you actually need it most – out in the sun, away from your makeup cabinet. This product is genius. To buy: ILIA Radiant Translucent Powder ($30)
Besides your toes, the easiest place to forget to wear sun protection is your lips. This is precisely why we are so excited about the new sunscreen lipstick from Suntegrity, the maker of some of our favorite natural SPF formulas. There is nothing else like it, ladies. It serves up a beautiful depth of color, all while giving you a whopping SPF 30 and tons of moisture. To buy: Suntegrity Lip CPR SPF 30 Lipstick ($28)
When you find a good concealer, it’s a public service to spread the news, and we’re paying it forward with the latest from W3LL People. It’s an ultra-light and blendable mousse that covers everything and improves the texture of your skin. It’s comprised of a nice cocktail of organic algae (so many nutrients!), coffee, pomegranate and peptides. To buy: W3LL People Bio Correct Multi-Action Concealer ($22.50)
At the end of a long day, there’s nothing like a face mask for a really thorough cleansing treatment. We just discovered BEING and their Complexion Clays, and we’re hooked. Mix in two parts water to one part clay, and sit back to let it do its detoxing thing. Afterwards, your skin will feel squeaky clean, but also balanced due to the added oils. To buy: Being Sana Terra Complexion Clay ($24)
It’s easy to forget how delicate lashes are, which is why this conditioning mascara from Beautycounter is so welcome. It creates no breakage or clumping, but tons of drama and definition, plus much-needed moisture. To buy: BeautyCounter Lengthening Mascara ($29)
This serum was designed to make your moisturizer work even harder. You only need to mix a few drops into your usual face cream to reap the benefits. It calms and strengthens your skin, helps it stay moisturized throughout the day, repairs sun damage, and decreases redness. It also gives you a well-deserved blast of aromatherapy. To buy: Osmia Organics Nectar Vital Rose Drops ($98)
