Editor's Letter: May 2015

This month we introduce you to our Guest Editor for May: Clementine!

There are few things that offer me more perspective than downtime. Even something as simple as a trip to my hometown (which I took recently) can remove the cobwebs and give some much needed perspective.

Maybe it is time spent with family, strolling down familiar streets and catching up on even more familiar stoops, or perhaps it is simply being away from the daily routine. All I can say is that clarity is often found when I give myself two things: time and space. (That's why this month's letter is arriving on the fifth of the month instead of the first.)

It seems only fitting that when talking about perspective, we also mention the people and conversations that are illuminating in our everyday lives and online communities. And while May is the month of mothers, I also think it's a time to celebrate mentors - the grandmothers, sisters, aunts, friends, colleagues and teachers who know that we don’t always need the problem solved as much as we need a listening ear, a nod of support and a gentle nudge in the right direction.

This month I want to celebrate them all, including the woman who has been a mentor to this site. She is the voice of wisdom, love, compassion and empathy. She has listened to our struggles and concerns. She is a mother, a mentor, a writer and a friend (and now she is the Guest Self & Wellness Editor for May).

Please join me in giving a warm welcome to our very own Karey Mackin....but you probably know her best as our trusted advice columnist, Clementine! Karey will be here all month, sharing her favorite Clementine letters, where she finds everyday inspiration and yes, a little more of the wisdom we have come to know and love.

The Clementine Daily editors and contributors will be following suit - passing on life lessons from their own mothers, telling stories of family heirlooms and sharing best-kept beauty secrets and recipes. There is much to celebrate (and to make, try, read and glean) in May - the mothers, the mentors, the time and space...the perspective.
