Not only is Managing Editor Amanda Carter Gomes our most trusted advisor for all things business, etiquette and strategy, but she's also the kindest soul around. Today, we're thrilled to shine a bit of the spotlight on this behind-the-scenes powerhouse who keeps our Clementine Daily ship afloat and inspired!:
You've just had a baby and are already back at the helm! How are you managing the juggle of work, life and motherhood?
Ha! I don't know if "managing" would be the best term to describe it; I love being a mom and I love my work and ideally neither would suffer at the expense of the other. The reality is that right now a deadline may be met after a late night feeding and a baby may or may not be strapped to me (safely) as I type. Like I said, I do my best and at the end of the day that is all I ask of myself...the rest is out of my hands. Though, I will say that having a supportive partner and an espresso machine have helped immensely.
What's your favorite aspect of Clementine Daily, both the site and your role in the site?
This is tough, there is so much I love about Clementine! I think my favorite aspect about the site is the theme of acceptance. We have a "come as you are" mentality; I am not a big fan of exclusivity and I find the site refreshing and unique.
My favorite aspect of this role (hands down) is getting to work with the incredible editors on a daily basis; that and the numerous hats I get to wear as Managing Editor. I am not a creature of habit and this job has many elements, all of which I happen to love.
Do you have a mantra or motto you live by?
This changes almost daily, but after a crazy 9 months I currently resonate with this one: "When nothing is sure, everything is possible".
You have the unique ability to make anyone feel at ease, as if they've known you their whole life. What's your secret?
That is so kind of you to say! I have always been a "what you see is what you get" kind of gal; there is not a lot of mystery to me. I realize this does not work for many, but perhaps this helps people feel at ease because there is no pretense or airs. I am also genuinely curious about people and enjoy getting to know them. I love to hear about their passions - what excites them, scares them and gets them out of bed in the morning. Needless to say, I ask a lot of questions:)
You're the mother of two darling boys. What are a few key ideals you hope to instill in them?
- Acceptance of themselves and others
- Kindness in words and actions
- Courage to lead a life they love
As a publicist and creative consultant, you've helped dozens of brands and entrepreneurs follow their dreams. What's your #1 advice to creatives hoping to make their ideas a reality?
Invest in yourself! I have worked with many people/businesses who cannot easily articulate the product or services they offer. If you can take the time to invest in yourself upfront, to develop your story and create your brand, then you can avoid a myriad of pitfalls and save a lot of time, energy and money in the future.
How has Clementine Daily shaped your own life?
Clementine has impacted me greatly! From the weekly recipes, (which have become a staple in the dinner rotation at my house - I have seriously made almost every one), to introducing me to an array of inspiring female entrepreneurs, to reminding me of the beauty of working tirelessly on a project I love (with a team I adore )- this site has shaped my life on practically every level and I am forever grateful!
