January's here - the month of fresh starts, clean slates and emotions that vacillate between "Finally, the holidays are over!" and "Just one more eggnog, please?" Here at Clementine Daily, we're ready to embrace the new, but don't mind savoring the old for just a few more days. Because, as it turns out, it's the old that tells the story. It's the old that coats our hearts and forms a new skin entirely - thinning with years, but thickening with time.

Haruki Murakami once said:

We’re so caught up in our everyday lives that events of the past, like ancient stars that have burned out, are no longer in orbit around our minds. There are just too many things we have to think about every day, too many new things we have to learn. New styles, new information, new technology, new terminology … But still, no matter how much time passes, no matter what takes place in the interim, there are some things we can never assign to oblivion, memories we can never rub away. They remain with us forever, like a touchstone.

So in the spirit of touchstones, this month we're celebrating the old, the vintage, the tried-and-true. You'll find classic comfort with a twist: a recipe for grown-up spaghetti, timeless drugstore beauty finds, advice for editing your closet and bucking trends. And of course, we'll be featuring plenty of new ideas, as well, because after all - no one celebrates the old quite like the new.

So, dear Clementines, here's to old denim, old photographs, old lessons - and a new perspective for each. Happy 2014.
