How To Choose The Perfect Rosé

We asked our friends at Metropolitan Market for tips for choosing the perfect rosé for our palate.

At our latest salon dinner we discussed motherhood and brought together a variety of mommas, mommas-to-be and women who are exploring the idea of motherhood through various lenses. Our friends at Metropolitan Market graciously allowed us to utilize their new space and there we enjoyed a delicious charcuterie platter, sipped rosé and feasted an array of salads and homemade pizza.

While in the shop, we could not help ourselves from gleaning wisdom from Met Market's wine guru, as rosé season was newly upon us. He had some great tips for choosing a variety that best suits our individual palates and we wanted to pass on his tips for your summer wine drinking.

Tips For Finding Your Perfect Rosé 

  • French Rosés are almost always dry and who the rest of the world tries to emulate.
  • Other European Rosés (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Austria) are also dry, their sense and palates fall to the drier side to accompany food. 
  • Domestic options are more about determining the varietals and sweetness. White Zinfandel, Riesling and Moscato-based (+ many California Rosés) lean to the sweeter side and are lower priced. 
  • WA and Oregon Rosés all tend to be dry and a little pricier since both states do not grow grapes in bulk.
