It’s around this time of year that we start to feel a little claustrophobic. Winter is fun at first with its wool socks, snuggly throws, and delicious, warming food. But now that we’re a few months in, things can start to feel a little stale.
Since we’re all spending a lot of time indoors (and will be for a couple more months), why not give your home a little pick-me-up with the help of a room freshener? If you’re up for a DIY – and we’re guessing you might be if like us you are spending a lot more time indoors – give one of these tried and true recipes a try:
DIY Lavender Home Spray
Fill a bowl or beaker with ½ cup filtered water.
Mix in 4 TBSP vodka (the quality of the vodka doesn’t matter).
Add 15-20 drops of lavender essential oil.*
Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
*When you tire of the scent, switch out the oil for another fragrance. We love rose, rosemary, or chamomile for a calming spray.
Simmering Pot Potpourri:
There are a variety of recipes for Simmering Pot recipes out there, but this one is a Clementine favorite!
Fill a saucepan about half full of water and bring to a boil.
Add cinnamon sticks, 2-3 orange rinds, and a sprinkle of cloves to the water and allow to boil for a few minutes.
Turn down the heat on your stove and allow the mixture to simmer.
That’s it! You can allow this mixture to simmer all day on your stove, adding water every 30 minutes or so. Be sure to turn off the mixture when you leave the house.
Our favorite thing about these home fresheners? They’re just about foolproof! Play around with scents and ratios until you find your favorite recipe.
