We'll be the first to admit: it is exceptionally easy to be focused on the future this time of year. As we get caught up in prepping and planning for the months to come, we often forget to stop and take in what's right in front of us. Here are a few simple ways to be absolutely present in any given moment.

  1. Put down the tech. Yes, this is a tough one for us too. However, when we're glued to a screen, there is no way we're tuned in to those around us. We simply have to remind ourselves to resist the urge to check in or snap that photo. It's amazing how meaningful our moments can be when we actually participate in them.

  2. Stop to breathe deeply for a moment. We've said it before and we'll say it again: taking a few deep breaths can go a long way. If you're feeling frazzled, worried or just downright exhausted, a few moments focused on breathing can get you back to your centered self.

  3. Smile at a stranger. We're all busy people, but when did we become too busy to smile? Rather than checking our to-do list for the umpteenth time or scrolling through our Twitter stream in a public place, we've taken to making eye contact and smiling. The simple act snaps us right into the moment.
